DA’s Pappas threatens KZN premier with ‘proof of corruption’

Chris Pappas claims he has a folder with evidence of how KZN government funds were funnelled to the ANC.

The Democratic Alliance’s (DA) KwaZulu-Natal premier candidate, Chris Pappas, is threatening to unveil ‘damning evidence’ of corruption, involving KZN Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube, at the State of the Province Address in two weeks.

Pappas claims government funds were syphoned to the African National Congress (ANC).

Armed with a yellow folder, he told journalists during the official unveiling of the DA national election billboard in Durban, that he had proof to back up his allegations.

Dube-Ncube’s office is questioning the ‘proof’ Pappas claims to have and will reserve comment until the yellow file of alleged evidence is revealed.

The evidence, Pappas claims, are documents from reliable sources and employees of Dube-Ncube’s department that allegedly show how the premier’s office was involved in corruption.

“I will be sharing and revealing how she did this,” Pappas said.

While promising the media access to what is in the yellow folder only in two weeks, Pappas said Dube-Ncube took important budgets meant for accountability and performance and shifted them towards short-term political projects that were not budgeted for.

Speaking to The Witness on the sidelines of the DA’s election billboard unveiling, Pappas said he was choosing to wait until the SOPA next week ‘so that Dube-Ncube herself can be part of the exposé of corruption’.

He refused to share further details of what was in the folder.

During the billboard unveiling, he said the DA was officially in ‘campaign mode’ and was present in all communities.

“We are serious about rescuing this province from the decline that we have seen over the years.”

“People are hungry, unemployed and the DA government across the country is proving that when we are in power, we can turn things around,” he said.

He said these elections were about more than just ‘black and white, rural and urban’ but about their future and knowing that there was hope.

“We are bringing hope across the province,” he said.
